Snow peas are a thin, sweet, and tender-crisp spring and fall vegetable that’s delicious raw, but are also delicious when used in cooked dishes. They’re surprisingly versatile, healthy, and cook very quickly.

There are tons of great methods for how to cook snow peas, but this collection is all about inspiration. I’ve collected delicious and creative recipes that use snow peas in salads, soups, curries, noodle bowls, stir fries, and more. I hope it helps you find the perfect idea for using them in your home cooking.

Tips on Using Fresh Snow Peas

You’ll most often find snow peas at local markets from late spring through early summer and then again in mid-fall. If you can’t find them there, check out the produce section of your grocery store, where they’re usually available year-round.

These quick tips will help you buy, store, and prepare them so they’re ready for whatever recipe you fall in love with.

  • Always look for flat, smooth, unblemished pods. They should bend, but also have some resistance, or snap.
  • Store them in the fridge in a sealed container to help them last up to a week or more.
  • Remove the stem end and peel the fibrous strings from the seam of both sides of the pea. Leaving it on can make them tough to chew.

Don’t overcook them! They only need a few minutes to become tender, and overdoing it will lead to mushy, limp peas instead.
