Here I am with another perfect appetizer to impress your guests with. Meet a famous Hawaiian dish Lomi Lomi Salmon, which I decided to serve in avocado halves. The result exceeded my highest expectations. It looks fantastic, plus these two go so well together!

Me and my girlfriends, we come up with some ideas like “salads with pineapple”, “appetizers starting with the letter D”, “Italian recipes”, and everyone has to bring a dish to a party. So fun! My most favorite themes are the ones related to various cuisines. Italian, Spanish, Russian, or any else. I love them all. This is a perfect way to get acquainted with foreign cultures and learn something new without lifting your rear off the sofa. It’s like traveling the world through food. Cool! Why I am telling you all this stuff? Once we made a Hawaiian food party, and a friend of mine brought a simple yet super tasty dish – Lomi Lomi Salmon. The very first bite made me fall in love. Today I decided to recreate this exotic dish with a little twist of mine.
So what Lomi Lomi Salmon is all about? The dish itself requires only few ingredients: raw salted salmon, tomatoes, white onion, and green onion. It’s usually served as a side dish alongside roasted meats. However, I enjoy it as a standalone dish too. It’s like a salad to me. If you are following this blog you probably know about my addiction to appetizers. I am a weak eater so it’s my favorite type of food to serve my guests or enjoy by myself. My addiction led me to making an appetizer out of Lomi Lomi Salmon too by serving it in avocado shells!
The presentation is amazing isn’t it? But what about the taste? Does this Hawaiian creation go well with an avocado? Absolutely! One hundred percent yes. I was surprised by how perfect it tasted. It’s like these two were meant to be together. Seriously. That’s what I love about avocado – you can never go wrong with it + it’s full of healthy stuff. My list has been updated with one more fantastic appetizer I will be able to serve to my friends and family. TRY IT!
P.S. If you are having problems with finding salted salmon, there are two ways you can go about this: either buy a fresh salmon and cure it at home, or just use smoked salmon instead. I made Lomi Lomi with it once and there wasn’t too much difference to me.
- 1/2 lb (225g) skinless salted salmon , can be substituted with smoked salmon or gravlax, cubed
- 2 large tomatoes , seeded and cubed
- 1/2 cup sweet white onion , finely diced
- 1 green onion , chopped
- avocados , halved and seeded, for serving
- lemon juice , for drizzling
- In a bowl, add the salmon, tomatoes, onion, and green onions and mix well. Chill and serve in the avocado halves. Drizzle with some lemon juice. Enjoy!
